Introduction to Blogging

WHAT IS BLOGGING?
The term “blog” is short for “web log.” Wikipedia defines a blog as a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order.

WHAT DO PEOPLE “BLOG” ABOUT?
The subjects of blogs vary as much as the millions of people who blog on a regular basis. The subject matter of blogs seem to fall into the following categories: business support, political/social commentary, hobby/special interest and personal.

KEY BENEFITS TO BLOGGING:

  • A blogger can create a nice-looking, functional website without any knowledge about website design and coding.
  • Blogs can be search engine friendly because they provide an easy way to refresh content and they provide strong incoming links to other sites.
  • Blogs almost always provide an easy-to-manage system for readers to make comments about the blogger’s articles. This is great for the blogger because he or she can get readers involved in generating new content for the site.
  • Blogs can have multiple authors and the administrator can set varied levels of access to other authors.
