Domain name : Your domain name is your web address. Typically www.yoursite.com.

H

HTML : HTML is an acronym for Hypertext Mark-up Language. It is the code that most websites are created with.

Hyperlink : A hyperlink is simple a link from a word (or words) or an image to another page or website.

P

Page : A “page” is a “static” or permanent “post” that often maintains a presence on the main menu.

Permalinks : Permalinks are the permanent URLs to your individual weblog posts, as well as categories and other lists of weblog postings. A permalink is what another weblogger will use to refer to your article (or section), or how you might send a link to your story in an e-mail message.

Ping(s) & Pingback : Pings

Plugins : Plugins are sub-programs within your blog engine that primary work behind the scenes and integrate with the software that runs your site.

Post : A “post” is your recently posted material, is time-based, and fluid.

R

RSS : An acronym for Really Simple Syndication. An RSS document, which is called a “feed,” “web feed,” or “channel,” contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that’s easier than checking them manually.

S

Sidebar : Sidebar typically refers to the strip of menu items and/or widgets to the left, right or on both sides of your site’s main content.

T

Tag : A tag is a word (or words separated by commas) that describe the main points in your post. Tags are included in such widgets as a “tag cloud.”

Tag Cloud : A tag cloud is a collection of tags from your blog, usually in the sidebar, with each tag differing in size and color representing how many posts use the tag.

Tagline : This is a phrase that should convey your site’s purpose/intent in a few short words.

Template : A template is the design structure of your blog. The is the code that tells images where to be displayed, how text should look and what functions should be completed to run your website.

U

URL / URI : URL is an acronym for Universal Resource Locator. URI is an acronym for Universal Resource Indicator. Both mean the same thing … the complete address or a website aor web page.

W

Widget : Widgets are little sub-programs that manage very small portions of content. Widgets are easily added and removed from a “widgetized” site. For example, a widget may manage a “Quote of the Day” function.
